Today people can get more things completed in a shorter period. That seems like the best thing, except instead of by using this additional time for restoration, people just find more things to do. How often do you say, “I am so busy” but always find more items to fill your time?

The desire to always do more, and to do all of it simultaneously, creates mental overload. Such constant stimulation will make you run down and fatigued. To complicate matters further, you have at your disposal every type of distraction and devise to keep the mind stimulated 24/7.

Individuals are unwittingly stimulating or distracting themselves into an early grave. Individuals have forgotten how you can be fully contained in as soon as. For all those accustomed to constant mental busyness, focusing only on the here and now isn’t just difficult, it’s almost painful.

The multitasking thoughts are easily frustrated, causing people to begin stressing within the smallest inconvenience, a slow line, traffic, a poor cell signal, poor weather, and the list could go so on. People feel uncomfortable if they’re not constantly doing something. If someone or some activity does not hold their interest they will whip out a digital devise to have their mind engaged, entertained or distracted appropriately.

After i began to see this in myself, I became disturbed and started to wonder if others were doing this also. Affirmed, I started noticing that ADD is standard operating procedure. Through our amazing technological advances we are developing a society that can’t sit still and is constantly looking for the following fix of distraction or entertainment.

My question for you is, “Is this a real healthy method to live?” I must respond with a resounding NO! The body specified for to see exertion and recovery. However, many people experience neither throughout their day.

They aren’t active enough to actually exert themselves plus they are not focused enough to be relaxed and restored. This is a HUGE problem, one which many are oblivious to. Instead people focus attention on their wants and wanting it right now, instead of enjoying and loving what they’ve and who they are at this moment.

You can observe how this can be a never-ending cycle. Happiness is found no where within that cycle. What’s the answer? I believe it is time to get back to basics.

Simply because we have numerous technological advancements at our disposal does not mean it’s beneficial to utilize them constantly. The NIV Bible even states in Corinthians 6:12 that “Everything is permissible for me”–but not things are beneficial. “That is really a valid and wise statement that stands the test of your time!

Technology can be beneficial, the problem is that it’s very easy to misuse and overuse. What was made to help people save your time has become absorbing their time. We’re becoming a society similar to the one featured within the movie, Wall-e.

Within this movie, all of the everyone was so technologically advanced that there was nothing they physically needed to do for themselves. They rode around on little hover crafts and indulged themselves. This caused these phones become obese, lethargic and dependant. What a startling message that simple children’s movie sent to me.

Is this where we’re headed? We don’t even have to wake up to turn the channel on our original distractor, the tv. We can be comfortably numbed and distracted. That’s area of the problem. All of this lack of discomfort physically, results in immense discomfort mentally.

Your body was created for physical activity and new methods for living are slowly making that unnecessary. Another Biblical verse you think of is “but I discipline my body system making it my slave.” Some translations say, buffet my body. That’s buff-et as with discipline, not buff-ay as in endless meals. Whenever you constantly surrender for your desires, they become the perfect master.

Self-discipline and accountability have become things of history. They make us uncomfortable and we tend not to be uncomfortable. Therefore we look for the every present distraction until that notion passes. It’s time to leave the indulgent comfort zone. Begin to:

1. Set personal boundaries on technology and screen time.
2. Setup responsibility for exercise and time to recover.
3. Discipline your ideas, be still and exercise mindfulness.
4. Say NO to more things that demand your time and effort.
5. Guard blocks of time for the healing restoration they can provide.

Hold yourself to a higher standard, begin to enforce personal discipline and relish the benefits it’ll bring. Value yourself enough to take these five steps designed to push you out of the complacent comfort zone. This kind of conditioning will help you restore healthy balance in your thoughts, body and spirit.
